Getting Vertical

I returned to Montjuic today. Instead of climbing up from the street, I took the metro up and into the heart of the park. I specifically wanted to visit the Joan Miro Foundation. Much of the collection is paintings but there is also a variety of sculptures. Miro spent time in Paris, but he was very loyal to Barcelona and a lot of his work was influenced by the Catalan setting. When he went to art school, one of the exercises he recalled participating in was to close his eyes and feel the model he was about to paint or draw and then paint or draw according to the memory of what he'd touched. While a lot of his work became influenced by surrealism, he never officially joined the surrealist movement; he was not an abstract artist and deigned the appropriation because he said his work always had a point of reference. My favorites are from his Constellation phase.
Yes! I finally got a vertical fix on the damn tram. I had been wanting to ride this thing since my first day at Port Vell when I locked eyes with the expansive cable. Lovely views the whole ride which culminated at the other end (obviously) where Castell Barcelona is situated. Not much to say about the castle outside of the obvious: big, pretty, nice views, sweet lawn.

Lots of people wandering the castle grounds were wearing their futbol flag capes. I was tempted to don one myself and represent, but they didn't have any for Manhattan Beach or Santa Fe.
